how to prepare for your float session

So, you are ready for your Journey to Yourself!

Let us provide you with some useful tips that will make your floating experience more enjoyable.
Please arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your appointment time. We will greet you, offer a tour and answer any of your questions; we want you to feel welcome and relaxed.

before your floating session

  • Try to avoid alcohol, caffeine, or other stimulants prior to floating. These may interfere with your ability to relax to your fullest potential.

  • Do not shave the day of your float. If you shave 2 or 3 hours before using the tank, the shaved skin will sting and distract you from achieving deep relaxation. So postpone shaving until after the session.

  • If you wear contacts, it would be in your best interest to remove them before floating. So don`t forget to take a container with you.

  • Eating within the few hours before your float may cause distracting digestion noise during your session. Thus, if you don’t want to hear your stomach growling while you’re trying to relax, you should try not to eat few hours prior to your floating session.

  • If you have any issues with swimmers ear or are prone to ear infections we would suggest you bring your own ear plugs if required.

  • You should not have to worry about things like a swimsuit, shampoo or conditioner, body wash, towels, bottled water, earplugs, vaseline and a few other minor amenities - they are provided by Center.

  • A swimsuit is not needed because most people float in naked. Clothing that touches the skin causes a major distraction in the float tank.

  • We also recommend that you take off your jewelry.

  • You may also need to bring: deodorant, lotions, make-up, loofah, any specialize hair products, hair brush/comb.

TIPS

  1. Make sure a towel is easily accessible from within the cabin because you will get salt in your eyes. There is nothing worse than scratching an annoying itch on your face only to get burning salt water in your eyes!

  2. Do not drink anything for at least two hours and try to use the bathroom before using a float tank. You do not want a full bladder ripping you away from “the zone,” so make sure to go in empty.

  3. Do not think about time. Worrying your session is about to end or wondering how long you’ve been in only subtracts from the experience.

  4. If after your first float you think you had trouble worrying about time, try requesting for the float center to play music for the first half and silence for the second half of your next float. Music is a good experience to try while floating, and the half music, half silence method works as a timer to let you know when your float is half over so you can focus less on time and more on the float.

  5. Focus on breathing. Just like meditation, focusing on breathing really helps to relax.

  6. Try to schedule your first float to last at least one and a half hours and get out and take a break if you need it. The more times you float, the less time you need to get in “the zone” during future floats, so don’t let the hour and a half scare you.

  7. Floating for the first time will not be anything like you can imagine. That’s okay, because it’s impossible to go in with no expectations. Just remember, one thing you can expect for sure is that you will leave the tank feeling relaxed.

  8. Use waterproof Band Aids or Vaseline to cover cuts. Ever heard the idiom “to rub salt in a wound?” Because of the salt in the tank, forgetting to cover cuts brings that idiom to life in a float tank.

  9. Try floating both with and without the foam pillow. Some people prefer not using the pillow but others find neck support helps relaxation.
Please watch also the short video below to know some more details about floating procedure. It was made for other type of floating tanks, but the main ideas of preparation are quite the same.
